Wauconda is a village of about 6,300 40 miles
northwest of downtown Chicago. Recreational opportunities include fishing and water
sports at Bangs Lake, cross country skiing at the Lakewood Forest Preserve's Hills and an
active Park District program. History buffs may enjoy the Andrew Cook Home, operated
by the Wauconda Township Historical Society (711 N. Main Street, 847-526-9393), open
Sunday afternoons from May through September. All grade school-aged children attend
Community Unit (K-12) District 118 schools, while some secondary students attend Mundelein
High School, district 120. A Catholic Grade School is located in Wauconda. For
